Work Experience
Medi-Quest will advise you about work experience but more importantly we will explain why it is relevent to getting into med school and ultimately becoming a doctor.
GAP years
Many students have asked us about taking a GAP year. As long as you can justify what you have done with the time then it is a reasonable way of enhancing your personal statement. If you plan to have a year out to watch TV then don't be surprised when medical schools reject you however gaining some work experience in a hospital abroad may help your cause.
Travelling to remote parts of the world on your own to do work experience is generally not recommended by medi-quest for safety reasons. We have found companies that will help you arrange valuable experiences. Once such company is projects-aboard.
Projects Abroad arrange medical programmes in the developing world so that you can get medical experience over a summer before you go to medical interviews or in a gap year before you start university.
The programmes allow you to gain valuable experience and insights to see if medicine is the right thing for you. You will be working alongside local doctors and nurses whether you are working in India, Mongolia or Mexico. There are twenty different countries to choose from.
Projects Abroad organise a place for you to stay, a project for you to work on, insurance as well as the back up of local staff on the ground.
You might want to join a two week special programme to over a summer. To find out more go to http://www.projects-abroad.co.uk/volunteer-projects/2-week-specials/
